Fun Sweet Treats To Make During Quarantine

Are you feeling bored during this quarantine period? Well, we’ve got some fun food projects for you to enjoy today.

Everyone loves a good sweet treat, and now that we all have extra time to chill around the house this year there are so many amazing chances to make mouthwatering desserts. Here are some of the super fun recipes that you can make today that will make the whole family happy.

Chocolate chip cookies 
Chocolate chip cookies have to be some of the best treats to make for the family, and when they are hot and fresh out of the oven they are like heaven to eat. This recipe will make the most indulgent chocolate cookies and you’ll want to grab yourself a big glass of milk to enjoy these with!

Ingredients:
  • 300g flour 
  • 80g cocoa powder 
  • 1 tsp baking powder 
  • 230g butter
  • 250g caster sugar 
  • 2 eggs 
  • 100g dark chocolate chips
  • 100g milk chocolate chips
  • 100g white chocolate chips

In a bowl, whisk together the butter sugar and eggs until light and creamy. Fold in the dry ingredients until smooth. Add chocolate chips and stir through. 
Bake for 20 minutes at 190C until beautiful and chocolatey.

Vanilla cupcakes
Cupcakes are a great recipe to make if you have some time on your hands and they can also be a good thing to make with the kids. Whether you want to take the the best vanilla cake recipe and make it into cupcake sizes or create your own, this recipe is a winner.

Ingredients:
  • 175g sugar
  • 175g butter 
  • 175g self raising flour 
  • 3 eggs 
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract

Buttercream:
  • 140g butter 
  • 280g icing sugar 
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract 
  • 2-3 drops Food colouring of your choice for decoration 

  • To make these easy cakes, preheat your oven to 190C and prepare a muffin tin with cupcake cases. 
  • Beat together the butter, sugar and egg until light and fluffy. Add vanilla extract. 
  • Fold in flour carefully and make sure the mixture is smooth and airy. 
  • Scoop or spoon mixture into dishes. Bake for 15-20 minutes, after 15 minutes check with a skewer and if clean, they are cooked.
  • Mix buttercream ingredients until smooth and light, and pipe onto cooled cakes! 

This recipe is great because you can also use things such as sprinkles and chocolate to make the cupcakes look more fun, and allow the kids to all decorate their own cakes in their own way.

Cornflake nests
For a simple 10 minute snack that will be loved by everyone in the house, you can’t go wrong with some cornflake nests. These nests can be decorated with mini eggs or other treats and will make a lovely weekday treat for everyone.

Ingredients:
  • 300g cornflakes 
  • 200g milk chocolate

Decorations
  • To melt chocolate without burning it, place a pan on the hob and fill halfway with water, bring to a simmer. Place a bowl over the pan so that it sits but does not touch the water. Add your chocolate in chunks and allow to melt slowly, stirring now and again. 
  • Once melted, pour in cornflakes. You can also make this into rocky road by adding marshmallows and brownies and biscuit pieces.
