Creation Crate Subscription Review {Magical Holiday Gift Guide}

Monday, December 2, 2019

Do your kids enjoy STEM-focused activities? My kids really enjoy them and honestly, I enjoy them too. Nowadays almost everywhere you look you can find STEM related activities, toys, and the monthly subscription box. What I have found though is a lot of the monthly subscription boxes are more for younger kids, and not tweens or teens. Creation Crate has thought about the older kids with their subscription box that offers STEM-based activities for ages 12+up.
Creation Crate is a technology education subscription box that will teach you how to program electronic projects from the comfort of your home. Their curriculum is certified worldwide and is trusted in schools and homes around the world. They gear the curriculum towards teaching kids and us adults too the basics of engineering, robotics, and computer programming strategies.
Creation Crate includes projects with all the building hardware and programming software required. They focus on helping you understand how it works. Each month, you’ll receive a new project that’s slightly harder than the last. Because of the programming required to complete these activities, you will need a computer or laptop to download the software from the Creation Crate website.
The Creation Crate box came with an instructional pamphlet that guided us through the process to find our project on the website. You will also receive a coupon code to access the activity. Included also is the parts list. Once you access the project within the website, you will have step-by-step instructions to follow. You will find videos, diagrams, and more.
During our review, we received the Mood Lamp project. The perfect project to complete for the first time. This was great for my older kids and myself. The step-by-step instructions were easy to follow even if we didn’t quite understand. My son is one that always wants to see the inner workings of things, so this was perfect for him. What is nice about this project is that we can put it together and take it apart so someone else in the family can give it a try.
After we set the project up, it was time to follow the instructions on programming the project within the software you download onto your computer. Once we were all done everything worked great! The diagrams you used to follow along were helpful. We easily spent about 3 hours doing this project but had a blast doing it. The finished lamp offers red, blue, and green LEDs that are ever changing.
The kits say that it requires no experience, but my opinion they’re a bit more advanced. Luckily, with all the videos offered on the site, we could find whatever information we needed to understand the project and parts.

Creation Crate monthly subscription boxes would make a great gift this Holiday Season for any older kid that wants to learn more about electrical engineering and electronics. The cost ranges from $30 each month for an individual to teaching kits that start at $200 for several projects.
