4 Fabulous Family Meals

Feeding your family isn’t always as easy as you’d like it to be. Children can be fussy, you might have allergies to contend with, and we’ve all got things that we don’t enjoy as much as others. We want to feed our families healthy and nutritious meals, but we also want to make sure that we are giving them what they need, as well as what they enjoy. Then, of course, there is the expense of feeding a family to consider.

We have these lovely views of sitting around the table with our children, enjoying a healthy and tasty meal. Chatting happily about our days and sharing our news. Everyone is eating, and everyone is happy. The realities are different. Many parents find dinner time a kind of daily torture. They find themselves having to cook three different meals to keep everyone happy. Everyone sits with a tablet or phone in front of them, and meals are left unfinished. If only feeding older children was as easy as preparing Holle baby food for the little ones. Here are some ideas for four fantastic family meals that your whole family might enjoy.
Pasta Bake

Pasta bake is an awesome way to get plenty of vegetables into a meal, without making it seem dull or boring, or too threateningly different. Pre-cook your pasta, fry some chicken, peppers, and onion until browned, add some canned tomatoes and your cooked pasta and bring to a simmer. Then tip into an ovenproof dish and top with cheese before baking until the cheese has browned and the sauce is bubbling.

If you want to add some extra flavor, add chorizo with your chicken, or some soft cheese to your tomatoes sauce. Other options include adding tinned cherry tomatoes or making your sauce with cream instead of tomatoes. Pasta bake is such a fabulous family meal because there are so many different variations to a simple recipe.

Cottage Pie
Cottage pie is another simple family favorite that you can easily add plenty of vegetables too. Fry some diced onions with beef mince until browned. Add peas and carrots and cover with beef stock. Simmer for an hour until the gravy is thick. Tip this into an ovenproof dish, cover with mashed potato and cheese and bake until browned.

Sausage Traybake
Traybakes are great family meals because they are so easy and another great way to add vegetables to meals. Sausages make a perfect choice because they are cheap, easy to cook and a kids favorite. Place your sausages on a baking tray with sliced potatoes, peppers, onions and zucchini, drizzle with olive oil and bake in the oven for 40 minutes.

If you want to add more flavor, sprinkle with cajun seasoning and add sliced chorizo.

Homemade Burgers

Burgers are always a favorite with kids and adults alike, and nowhere near as hard to make as you might imagine. Some people use an egg to bind the mince before shaping into patties, kneading it into the mince with their hands. Others, add a tablespoon or horseradish. Generally, the fat from the mince is enough if you are using beef. Add onions and some mixed herbs if you like, shape into patties and leave in the fridge for an hour before cooking. Serve with corn on the cob and sweet potato wedges for a much healthier alternative to a fast food burger.

  1. Good ideas. We love hamburgers cooked on cast iron with bacon grease and bacon on top. Love tostadas for easy dinner night, kids and adults can pick their own toppings
