A Gift with the Power to Change Christmas

Sam is so excited about Christmas! He's thinking about his Christmas list, looking forward to holiday parties, and puzzling over one very mysterious gift: a sparkly box sitting on the mantel. In the midst of the festivities, Sam and his family participate in various acts of kindness to others. On Christmas morning, when Sam finally opens the Sparkle Box, he finds only slips of paper that record the family's good deeds. Sam's mom explains that the things that they've been doing are, in fact, a gift for Jesus, for Jesus said that whatever we do for those in need, we do for Him.

When it comes to Christmas time, my family enjoys the moments that we sit down together and read a Christmas story. This year we had the chance to review ‘The Sparkle Box’, which is such an amazing Christmas story. It truly offers a touching story about how giving a gift to someone else is truly the power of Christmas.

Throughout the book, you follow a little boy and his parents. During this time, he is so excited for all the fun gathering he gets to go too and all that he will be getting on Christmas morning. He is also excited to see what is inside the Sparkle Box. Every so often, he will ask about the Sparkle Box but his parents just keep telling him we have added something new into it.

During the story the little boy sees moments of people helping others and then he starts to help others himself. By the end of the story when he gets his Sparkle Box inside are little pieces of papers telling about different moments they helped others. These moments were the moments when they gave a gift to someone as well as Jesus.

My whole family enjoyed the story and we were all very touched.

Author Jill Hardie and her family began placing a gift for Jesus under their Christmas tree as a way of bringing more meaning to the holiday.  The first time they opened His gift, the commercialism of the season melted away and they felt a profound joy and peace.  Jill hopes that The Sparkle Box will spark a new Christmas tradition, bringing light into thousands of lives.
