The Orb Factory ~ Curiosity Kits 'Lave Rock Volcano' Review/Giveaway

Tuesday, September 10, 2013

My family and I love to do arts and crafts together. It allows us to have fun together, learn a few things and make some memories in the process. When it is winter, we seem to do a lot more arts and crafts then when it is summer. With winter coming up I am in the process of finding some fun things my family and I can do together. When I had the chance to do a review for Curiosity Kits by The Orb Factory I was excited because all of the fun things that they offer. They were kind enough to send me the Lave Rock Volcano. This is not only great for a fun time to have with your family but with Science Fair's coming up, it would make a great project for school as well.

My kids were so excited to make a volcano that could actually work. With my kids, being the age 6 and 9 this was a project that we as a family could all do together. However, if your kid were a little younger they would be able to be part of the project as well but with more assistance. I am also glad that the volcano came with everything that we would need except for the vinegar.

The first thing we had to do was build the volcano, which included casting it into shape and then painting it. This process does take a little while but my kids did not mind because they were having a blast. Once this part is completed, you then are ready to have your volcano erupt. I would however suggest building and having the volcano erupt outdoors. The whole process is a little messy so out on the driveway was perfect. I also like that there are no harmful chemicals to be exposed to your skin.

My kids had a blast at exploding the volcano. All you do is add vinegar to the provided squeeze bottle. Once you squeeze the bottle, the vinegar goes through the tube into the volcano and you get to see it erupt.

My kids had a blast at building, erupting and watching the volcano. This makes a fun weekend activity to have with your kids. The one thing I like about this volcano kit is that you can use it repeatedly unlike other volcano kits that we have had in the past. You simply use baking soda and vinegar that you already have. However, you can add red dye if you want it to look more realistic.
