Farrelly Brothers History Lesson
For nearly 15 years, Peter and Bobby Farrelly have been bringing audiences hilarious slapstick from their freshman effort Dumb and Dumber to more recent classic like Hall Pass. In this feature, join us as we take a look back at all the laughs the Farrelly brothers have brought to the big screen.

The Farrelly Brothers made their directorial debut in the 1994 comedy, Dumb and Dumber, starring Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels, as two brainless friends embark on a cross-country adventure to Aspen, Colorado in an attempt to return a suitcase full of money to its rightful and pretty owner.

In 1998, the Farrelly Brothers wrote and directed the sleeper hit, There’s Something About Mary, catapulting Cameron Diaz and Ben Stiller’s careers. The gross-out comedy tells the story of Ted and his longtime crush, Mary.  Years after high school ended, Ted realizes he still in love with her and hires a private investigator to track her down but he too falls in love with her and begins to give Ted false information on her.

In 2000, the Farrelly Brothers reunited with Jim Carrey in Me, Myself & Irene, which they wrote, directed and produced.  Co-starring Renee Zellweger, the comedy is about Charlie, a Rhode Island state trooper with a multiple personality disorder.  Though Charlie can usually control his disorder, until somebody or something pushes him to the edge and then Hank, his alter-ego takes over.  When Charlie gets assigned to return an alleged fugitive named Irene back to upstate New York, things were supposed to run smoothly, until Hanks steps in.

Filmed in North Carolina and Masschusetts, Shallow Hall tells the story of a shallow man named Hal, who falls in love with a 300-pound woman  after a self-help guru hypnotizes him into liking only the inner beauty of women, as opposed to just seeing them for their physical appearance.  The film stars Gwyneth Paltrow and Jack Black and is written, produced and directed by both Peter and Bobby Farrelly.

More recently, Peter and Bobby recreated the famous trio – Larry, Curly and Moe – otherwise known as The Three Stooges in the comedy with the same name,  Starring Sean Hayes, Will Sasso and Chris Diamantopoulos in the lead roles, the comedy finds the stooges in an attempt to save their childhood orphanage from being closed down while somehow stumbling into a murder plot and being part of MTV’s The Jersey Shore.
