Cooper and Me and the Military Book Review/Giveaway

Thursday, February 16, 2012

About Cooper and Me:  It was illustrated by 11-year-old Alexa Peters and co-written with her mother, Monique Peters.  The idea was inspired by Alexa's own experiences on her first day of school.  A talented young artist and writer, Alexa wanted to give back to others in a meaningful way through her art.  Starting at a very young age, Alexa created illustrated stories about her daily experiences, and from the pages of her sketchbooks came the idea for her first book, Cooper and Me.

Meet Trooper, Cooper’s best friend, and learn how he was adopted by Gracie and Joe and their parents, who both serve in the military. Find out how this family stays close despite being separated.

A must-read during patriotic holidays and for anyone with friends and family in the military, this book helps children know, that even when loved ones aren’t with us, they still love us and think about us. This book, along with all the other books in the Cooper and Me series, includes these interactive features:
• A Special Memory Creation
• Life Lesson
• Connections
• Learning Together

This is a heartwarming children's book that delivers a message that any age-group can relate to. It moved me in the same manner it would a child. Its message is one of love, care, devotion, respect, sacrifice, and overcoming the pain of being far from a loved one.

This is but one book from the Cooper and Me library. There are two dogs in this particular story; Cooper and Trooper. Trooper is the star character of this entry, he is also the guest. Trooper was a guard dog at a military base, far away. Trooper became hurt while serving his duty and a military couple brought him home to their children.

Trooper's adopted owners have two young children that live with their grandmother while they are away. Trooper makes them feel better when they miss their parents. With the help of Cooper (trooper's best friend-dog, too cute) and his owner, the two children decide to send a care package to their parents. They send a small stuffed dog that looks like trooper, so their parents can find the same comfort they have in trooper.

A very classically Illustrated and written childrens book that delivers a modern message. The men and women that serve in the armed forces of America are the same men and women that allow life as we know it to continue. So many people take that service for granted, and it is a shame. Books like this one, remind us to be thankful and hold the service men and women in our hearts and thoughts. They are our "troopers" keeping watch over us, even when we sleep.

A very special thank you to all of the heroes who are collectively the United States Armed Forces, and their families. We owe you for our maintained peace, order, and freedom. Where so much more is deserved, we offer a warm and sincere "Thank You". Thank you also Monique and Alexa  Peters for contributing this wonderful little story, and thank you Melissa Peterson, for helping Alexa breathe life into the pages.

More than  a simple story, this is a much needed and welcome contribution to our modern society.
