Saturday, November 12, 2011

Our family can't get enough of playing games, especially when the weather becomes cold and wintery. We especially love to try out new games. You never know if you will have a new favorite unless you try out new ones. There are games we love to play, ones that exercise brain power and create laughs along the way. We have two little ones, so we have to take that into consideration when selecting a new game to try. McNeill Designs for Brighter Minds, has been nice enough to send me a huge variety of items to review, all providing us with some new fun and laughter to go along with .

You've Been Sentenced! $24.95:
For ages 8 and up, 30-40 min to play, 3-10 players
The real fun begins when players have to read their sentences out loud and explain what they mean to the rest of players. They form the jury and vote thumbs up or down on whether the sentence and justification stand and the points are scored. 540 cards with over 2,500 words insure billions of possible sentences so the game is never repetitive and has unlimited re-play value.
Multiple other methods of play are available on our website that turn "You've been Sentenced!" into not just a game, but a full game system! We even have a lesson plan to turn "You've Been Sentenced!" into a classroom teaching tool. This game makes learning grammar and sentence construction fun and easy.

Bringing friends and families together: "You've Been Sentenced!" appeals to all ages and skill levels. Socially interactive, players become members of the Jury and can ask a player to justify and defend the grammar, sense and meaning of the sentence. The player has a chance to convince the Jury to accept their often outrageous and hilarious sentences.
Holding all the cards: "You've Been Sentenced!" is not just a single game. It's a "Game System", with numerous additional games and activities for the basic set available free of charge at our rules page.
Never the same game twice: A word deck with over 2,500 individual words, plus Wild Cards, ensures an infinite number of sentences, guaranteeing maximum re-play value. "You've Been Sentenced!" offers unlimited play, without ever becoming stale or repetitive.

During the review we were also sent all of the add on decks, which allowed us to enjoy the whole game to the fullest. Each deck is priced at $7.95.

When we got this game, I knew right away that we were going to have to have a game night with some friend s.This game was so funny with everything making sentences. You never know what someone will say. I was so happy that the folks at McNeill were nice enough to send me one of each of the add on decks. This really took the game much future. We also tried this as a family game to see how our little girl would do, she did great and had so much fun. As you may have guessed, this is actually a great learning tool as well. It is a game that will be played over and over in our home! I am also extremely impressed that You've Been Sentenced has won 17 awards.
Twisted Fish $10.00
Ages 8 and up, 30-40 min, 3-6 players
13 unique Fish characters in five different colors, plus 8 unique "Zingers" that allow you to break the rules, makes "Twisted Fish" a unique game experience. The real challenge takes place when asking for the fish cards you are collecting. Now you have to be specific about the type of fish and color you are seeking. "Twisted Fish" challenges you to remember every question asked at the table. It is challenging and fun right down to the very last card!

This game was definitely fun and exciting for the family to play. My kids both really got a kick out of the game. Since my little girl is seven it didn't take her long at to figure out the rules. In the case of our little boy, it took a while longer as he is only four. The game really makes you use your memory which is great, memory games are always super fun. The illustrations on the cards will keep you laughing, they are just crazy. My kids couldn't get over the card's illustrations. They really enjoyed being able to go online and meet the fish, this allowed them to get to know each character on each card a lot better. Plus, you can learn the rules and also watch a really cool video of the game. My little girl is already excited about a slumber party with her friends so they can play this game together.
